long story short

i designed a logo for a buisness. said buisness owner said he would compensate me for the logo when the buisness got up and running. said buisness owner informed me the buisness would not be taking off, and thus, the logo was not needed.

recently i found out that said company did get started, and my logo was ripped off without any permission or compensation.

on a related note, i'm not going to be posting any more pictures of sketches, paintings, tattoos, drawings, etc. here on the lj, or any other internet source. the theft didn't take place online, but i'm fed up.

Things like that piss me off

Alex, that really sucks. But its all to common a story when you're an artist / graphic designer.

These businesses say they'll pay you when they get up and running, and then you never see any of it.

I'm bummed I won't see any more of your designs online, but you're doing the right thing.

What's their website, maybe we can send them harassing emails or put them on digg.com. Would be nice to crash their server and have their ISP charge them for massive traffic overages.

PS
Have you thought about suing?

Re: Things like that piss me off

nah. i don't want to do any damage to the business or anything. i think it's already just a lost battle. i didn't post this entry to attack the business or the owner, just an explaination of why there probably won't be as many posts from now on. thanks though.

Uhhh...so I maybe forgot to mention that Mr. Moneybags actually described what he wanted to a graphic designer (and maybe showed him your design), and that the design was then changed very significantly. And while the original concept was in fact retained, he did ask for that concept in very specific terms. So, I dunno. Suffice it to say it really doesn't look all that similar any more.

i tried to find a copy of the logo online so i could look at the differences, but i couldn't. if you know where one is, i would love to see it. again, i didn't want to attack anyone or any company, just give an explaination of no more pics. i think what's bothering me is that the hardest part of anything like that is coming up with a good concept. when i was given the prompt to come up with a logo, all i was told was the business's name. i'm sure the professional graphic designer who was hired came up with a much nicer looking final product than mine, but it hurt me that he didn't come up with his own concept. or rather, that he was instructed to use my orriginal concept.

That is so messed up! What can be done about it? Can you sue this business?

it's messed up, but i don't think i can do anything about it. i don't want to sue or anything, but even if i did i wouldn't have copywrited proof that i came up with the design first. just testimony from a couple people.

you actually only have to change a design 30 percent.. to make it legal to use without the artists permission.. which is really not a lot at all when you are looking at it (could just be a line or a color change)..

but thats terrible. but karmas a bitch.. and they will get it back.

sorry about that, man. but we really needed something that said, "these diapers aren't just for shit but are THE Shit!" and your logo did that in a way that the others just couldn't. it is a little different tho. you wanted the classic brown and we went with more of a green tone (to appeal to the kids;) don't worry about it i'm working something out so that you can have a lifetime supply of the product.

seriously tho, i'm glad this got settled. it sounds messy.
